WinnipegLinks has been rebuilt as a faster, simpler static site while keeping the familiar navigation-first experience from the old version.
The biggest change is the layout. The site now returns to the classic left-sidebar structure on desktop, with the search area and link directory living in the main panel. On mobile, the sidebar folds into a menu so the page remains easy to scan.
The new version also keeps the idea that made WinnipegLinks useful in daily browsing: it should be quick to open, quick to search, and quick to jump to the sites you actually use.
What changed
- The homepage is now a static Astro site for better speed and reliability.
- The left navigation is restored on desktop and collapses cleanly on mobile.
- Link cards are easier to scan, with concise titles, descriptions, icons, and detail links.
- Categories such as School and Popular now keep their sub-sections visible instead of hiding them behind filters.
- The My nav area now supports both saved directory links and custom personal websites.
Why this matters
WinnipegLinks is meant to work like a local start page. It does not need to be complicated. It needs to be dependable, searchable, and comfortable enough to use every day.
This redesign is the foundation for more updates: guides, local link collections, and small tools that make the site more useful for Winnipeg users.
