My Nav is your personal collection of links on WinnipegLinks. Save websites, organize them into groups, and pin your everyday links to the homepage.
Save and Pin are different. Saving keeps a bookmark in your collection. Pin to homepage also makes it available in the homepage My Nav area. Unpinning removes the shortcut, not the bookmark.
There are three ways to save a website. W + WL is a bookmarklet — a special browser bookmark, not a browser extension or a subscription.
1. Save from the directory
- Find a website in the Winnipeg Links directory.
- Click the star in the top-right corner of its card. This saves it to your collection without automatically pinning it to the homepage.
- Open Manage all to choose a group and pin the bookmark if you want a homepage shortcut.
You can also open Details and use the save button on the website’s detail page. Saving it again does not remove it or create another copy.
2. Add a bookmark manually
Open My Nav and select Add bookmark. On the homepage, use My Nav → Edit → Add bookmark.
Both open the same form:
- Name — the label you want to see. This is required.
- Website URL — the address, such as https://example.com.
- Group — where to keep the bookmark. Create new groups in Manage all.
- Pin to homepage — whether to include it in your homepage shortcuts.
Select Save bookmark. From the homepage, Pin is checked by default and the selected group is preselected when possible. From Manage all, Pin is unchecked by default. You can change either choice before saving.
3. Save while browsing with W + WL
W + WL brings the current page’s title and address into Add bookmark, so you do not have to copy and paste them. Set it up once in your desktop browser.
Step A — Set it up once
- Show your browser’s bookmarks bar, the row of bookmarks below the address bar. Use your browser’s bookmarks menu if it is hidden.
- Open the WinnipegLinks homepage and click Edit in My Nav.
- Find W + WL, beside “Drag to bookmarks bar”. Drag the W + WL button onto your browser’s bookmarks bar. Clicking it on the page only shows setup instructions.
- Check that W + WL now appears in the bookmarks bar. Click Done on the homepage.
This illustration shows the drag action. Use the real W + WL button on the homepage to set up the tool.
Step B — Save the page you are visiting
- Visit the website or page you want to bookmark.
- Click W + WL in your browser’s bookmarks bar.
- The current tab navigates to WinnipegLinks and opens Add bookmark, with the name and URL filled in.
- Review the name and address, choose a group, and check whether Pin to homepage is selected.
- Click Save bookmark. Nothing is added until you save.
The bookmarklet runs when you click it. Its code reads the current page’s title and URL and passes them to WinnipegLinks in the destination URL. It does not read your browsing history or run in the background. This is different from uploading or syncing your whole collection.
If the bookmarklet does not work
- Clicking W + WL on the homepage shows a message: drag it to the bookmarks bar first, then use the saved browser bookmark on another page.
- Nothing happens on a browser settings page or another restricted page: try an ordinary website. You can always copy its address and use Add bookmark manually.
- The website is already saved: open Manage all to find, edit, or pin the existing bookmark.
- You are using a phone or cannot drag to a bookmarks bar: use Add bookmark and paste the address instead.
Choose your homepage shortcuts
In Manage all, pin the bookmarks you want on the homepage. Use the homepage group buttons to switch between All and individual groups. The page remembers your last selection.
The homepage shows two rows initially. Expand this group or Expand all pinned reveals the remaining links; Show less returns to the compact view. Your other bookmarks stay in Manage all.
Unpin or delete?
- Remove a homepage shortcut: click Edit, then the small Unpin icon on the card. The bookmark stays in your collection and keeps its group. You can pin it again later.
- Delete a bookmark from your collection: open Manage all and use that bookmark’s Delete action. This removes the bookmark itself.
Back up and restore your collection
Your collection is saved in the browser you are using. It does not automatically follow you to another browser or device, and clearing site data can remove it. Browser bookmark sync does not sync your My Nav collection.
- Open Manage all → Export backup to download a JSON copy of your bookmarks and groups.
- Keep the file somewhere you can find again.
- To restore it, open Import / restore and select the backup file.
- Review the preview. Merge bookmarks keeps your current collection and skips duplicate URLs. Replace all replaces it with the backup and requires explicit confirmation.
Export a fresh backup after important changes and before clearing browser data. To move your collection to another device, transfer the backup file and import it there.
